The decaffeination process that uses sugarcane is a natural and eco-friendly technique for extracting caffeine from coffee beans. This method is known for preserving the flavour and aroma of coffee while removing caffeine, making it an attractive option for those who want to enjoy decaffeinated coffee without sacrificing taste.

The process starts by crushing the sugarcane to extract its juice, which then undergoes fermentation to produce ethanol. Acetic acid in vinegar is added to the ethanol to turn it into ethyl acetate. This ethyl acetate is then used as a natural solvent in decaffeination.

Green coffee beans are steamed or soaked after harvesting and selection to make them more porous and receptive to the subsequent steps of caffeine removal. The extraction of caffeine involves immersing the treated coffee beans in sugarcane-derived ethyl acetate. In this phase, the ethyl acetate naturally bonds with the caffeine molecules within the beans, extracting caffeine from the coffee beans.

Once the extraction process is complete, the beans enter a resting period. During this time, the caffeine and ethyl acetate naturally separate from the coffee beans. The caffeine-ethyl acetate mixture is then removed. What sets this process apart is its commitment to sustainability. The extracted caffeine-ethyl acetate mixture can be further processed to separate the caffeine from the ethyl acetate, which can be recycled and reused for future decaffeination processes.

Once the beans are free of caffeine and ethyl acetate, they undergo a meticulous drying process to eliminate any remaining moisture. This step is crucial to ensure the quality of the final product. Stringent quality control measures are applied to guarantee that the decaffeinated coffee meets the highest standards of flavour and aroma, providing a satisfying coffee experience.
